Enjoying a cold beer by the blue ocean in Pattaya
Posted by Party Pete on May 25th, 2008 filed in EntertainmentSince April 25, Pattaya boasts its own beer garden. It is a copy of the successful Beer Garden on Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 7. This means that the owners, Peter from New Zealand and his Thai wife Ann also offer inexpensive beverages, tasty meals, and many “lonely Thai ladies” waiting to meet farang.
This brand new establishment is located nearby Walking Street and Beach Road junction, behind the Pier bar area and has the ocean on three sides. Visitors will notice that there aren’t hassling bar girls and therefore also no extra charge for lady-drinks and no bar fine system. However, currently the Beer Garden offers several attractive and unique promotions.
Each customer who brings a single lady along can benefit from the “freelancer discount”, which allows a 100 baht discount on the ordered beverages and food. The “bar fine” discount is even more attractive as it is good for 150 baht to each guest accompanied by a lady from other nearby positioned bars. Freelancers wishing to prepare their own papaya salad can make free use of the Beer Garden’s Somtam Corner.
It is the owners’ aim to create a laid-back ambience in this airy and bright venue, which enjoys a refreshing ocean breeze helping to keep all guests cool. Many party people like to hang out here and relax before they pop into one of the pulsating discos or go-go bars. The Beer Garden offers seats for 350 persons and it happened already several times that all tables were occupied.
The transformation from a neglected wooden restaurant into a trendy pub became reality due to a significant investment. The venue houses a spacious kitchen, a fully computerised billing feature along with five large HD televisions, which usually show live rock concerts.
Staff at the Beer Garden receives an above average salary as here they can’t benefit from bar-fines or lady-drinks. Peter, the owner even received complaints from several other businesses that the prices for the beverages are too cheap. For as low as 65 baht you may order one of the selection’s quality spirits and a bottle of beer cost only 50 to 65 baht. The place enjoys rather limited but acceptable profits and as long as its flow of customers remains steady the prices will stay this low.
While at first it might have been introduced as a gimmick, it now is most likely that the Somtam Corner will stay open. The owner explained that the ladies truly appreciate the corner, as they are allowed preparing papaya salad themselves and because they all prefer different spiciness levels, the Somtam Corner seems to be occupied most of the time.
