The majestic Saen Suk Temple
Posted by Party Pete on June 8th, 2008 filed in sightseeingLocated within a short driving distance from Bang Saen Beach in Cholburi is Wat Saen Suk. A selection of brightly coloured statues offer interesting lessons in morality and karma and depict several different old Siamese stories. Divided into zones, the vast temple compound is positioned along a calm coastal road. The zones, the Chinese Gods Garden and the Hell and Heaven Garden are dedicated to the Lord Buddha’s earthly existence and Thai idioms and proverbs.
Visitors can take a break while, in front of the Buddha images, making merit before continuing to view the illustrated pivotal moments which occurred in Buddha’s life. Entering the Hell and Heaven Garden is like arriving in another dimension. Here visitors might be frightened by the tall female and male spirits with their menacing arms and long tongues along with the many images of tortured souls in the afterlife. They are impaled on spiky trees and scream from boiling vats.
What to see in and around Pattaya
It is truly a relief to reach the gorgeous “heaven” zone. In the spot devoted to idioms and proverbs, some images will make visitors smile, while other statues might push them to practice some soul-searching skills. The Chinese Gods Garden features numerous rising statues, the most known of which is Pu-Thai also known as the Laughing Buddha. While you’re here don’t forget tossing a coin into the Buddha’s navel so good luck will make your life much more enjoyable!
