Pattaya’s notorious baht buses
Posted by Party Pete on September 24th, 2008 filed in just visiting, sightseeingIn Pattaya there are several transport options which usually provide fast and comfortable services to destinations around this popular seaside resort. The cheapest way of transport is usually offered by the numerous ‘baht buses’ which offer inexpensive fares (10 to 20 baht) for en-route stops and about 100 baht for a personal ride but you should bargain.
However, visiting holidaymakers have complained of unreasonable fees by several of these transformed pick-up trucks’ drivers. Make sure you agree with the driver on the fare before commencing the ride!
I highly recommend that you smile a lot during your friendly bargain conversation. They will appreciate your good attitude and most likely offer you their most reasonable rate.
If you right away get angry about the driver’s first proposed rate than expect the same kind of behaviour or even worse in return. You should realise that they have to work hard for earning a modest income. Within a few days you will figure out how to deal with the drivers and use their services cheaply.
In general, transport by the Baht Bus around Pattaya is cheap and convenient.
If you want to get out “en-route” just get up without having to say anything and push the button, which is placed on the rooftop to make the converted pick-up stop. As you get off you should give the driver the fee’s correct amount. Should it happen that you experience difficulties with an unreasonable or dishonest baht bus chauffeur, remember or write down the driver’s number and head to the Pattaya City Manager and let him know your complaint. You can reach the Pattaya City Manager by calling: (038) 429216.
