Sanctuary of Truth
Posted by Party Pete on December 10th, 2010 filed in DaytrippingThe Sanctuary of Truth was a monumental construction by the eccentric Thai billionaire known as Khun Lek. The main temple at the Sanctuary of Truth follows the basic concepts of Thai architecture, but also adds new features such as a number of beautifully intricate wood-carvings which depict the main artistic and religious influences in Thailand: Thai, Chinese, Hindu, and Khmer. Each of the four wings of the building reflect one of these 4 architectural influences, so it the Sanctuary of Truth really is a great way to explore the wonders of Thai architecture throughout the ages. Also, the whole building is actually made entirely of wood, which makes this place so architecturally unique.
Interestingly, whilst the Sanctuary of Truth is already a stunning display of Thai architecture, it is actually still a work in progress, with over 250 wood-carvers working continuously on this intriguing temple-like building.
The location of the Sanctuary of truth is also breath-taking, set on a rocky point of the coast just north of Pattaya in a small town named Naklua. Take in the surrounds whilst admiring the beautiful wood carvings and details at this interesting attraction. The best bit is, as visitors we are privileged to see the final product, but it’s not every day we get the chance to see the artists and builders at work, admiring their effort and skill which goes into producing such masterpieces.
Admission onto the Sanctuary of Truth costs 500 baht per person. This includes a guided tour around the site, and safety equipment is included, as this is technically still a construction site. The best way to reach the Sanctuary of Truth is to hire a car or motorbike.
