At Pattaya Floating Market visitors are transported back to a period when the bulk of Thailand’s commerce took place on streams and canals. The massive market complex opened in 2008 and is an aesthetically pleasing sight with canals, bridges, old Thai pavilions and exotic tropical trees and shrubs. The canals are dotted with punts ferrying shoppers between the four regions of the market. The areas represent the four parts of Thailand; the north, the northeast, the south and the central provinces.

The parts of the market feature boutique like shops where hand-crafted items native to the four regions make great gifts and mementos. OTOP (One Tambon One Products) items feature prominently as do silks, woven cloth and clothing, and herbs. Portrait artists knock up reasonable likenesses in no time at all. Fruits, drinks and regional gastronomic delicacies are available from waterborne vendors.

The market’s Nueng Siam Woodcarving Museum houses wonderful artefacts and exhibits, the most noted of which is a Ganesh elephant god effigy. There are frequent traditional dance performances as well as the chance of witnessing a boxing bout by contestants hanging from a pole above one of the canals. Those who wish to spend a few days longer here are able to check in at the onsite home-stay guest house. Full details of Pattaya Floating Market’s myriad draws are available at http://www.pattayafloatingmarket.com/.

The massive Buddha image carved into Chichan Mountain (Khao Chichan in Thai) is one of Pattaya’s prime attractions. The engraved statue is 130m high and 70m across at its broadest point, and dwarfs visitors standing next to it.

The engraving is sitting in the maravijaya position (cross-legged) and is a pleasing blend of the ancient Sukhothai and Lanna styles. As is customary with many important effigies and monuments dedicated to the Lord Buddha, it has relics of him enshrined in it.

The Thai answer to the giant cliffside Buddha statue at Leshan in China was named Phra Buddha Maha Wachira Uttamophat Satsada by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The name roughly translates as the Buddha glitters like a gem and enlightens all.

The idea of this magnificent monument was conceived by the head of the Buddhist order in Thailand, Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara. He first came up with the idea in 1984 and it was dedicated to King Bhumibol in 1996 to commemorate the golden jubilee year of his succession to the Thai throne.

The spacious gardens at the foot of Khao Chichan offer a place to relax and take in the magnitude of this unique Thai site. Visitors can get there by taking the road down from Pattaya to Sattahip and turning left at the sign for Yannasangwararam Temple.

The majestic teakwood structure that towers more than 100m into the sky above Naklua is known to one and all as the Sanctuary of Truth (or to Thais as Prasat Mai). Construction of the as yet incomplete structure is the brainchild of local philanthropist Khun Lek and is a fusion of Thai, Khmer, Chinese and Hindu architecture.

The building boasts wonderful wood carvings and sculptures which have been designed to provide a reflection of Earth, ancient folklore and religious legends, and Eastern Philosophy. Although the sanctuary resembles a cross between a Thai temple and palace, it is neither and is only meant to be a monument to the skills of Thai artisans.

There are often lots of visitors walking through the galleries of the building, yet due to the height of the ceilings it seems uncannily quiet. The compound of the sanctuary is beside the sea in the Naklua area north of the main Pattaya resort. The views of the Gulf of Thailand from here are purportedly the best in the region.

The Sanctuary of Truth complex offers visitors the chance of rides from the howdah of an elephant, on a cycle-rickshaw or in a horse and carriage. A visit to the website at http://www.sanctuaryoftruth.com/ gives additional details.

An interesting daytrip for culture buffs in Pattaya is to Yannasangwararam Temple (or Wat Yannasangwararam in Thai). This religious complex is situated on the shores of a lake around 20kms south of central Pattaya near the famed Pheonix Golf Club. The temple boasts a tranquil ambience with pavilions above and beside the lake which are just perfect for sitting and musing over the meaning of life.

Wat Yannasangwararam comes under the patronage of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the nearby main chapel, or prayer hall, was dedicated to the king in 1987 in honour of his 60th birthday. The chapel, Anekkuson Sala, has been designed to merge architectural styles such as Swiss, Chinese and Indian. The temple houses a collection of religious artefacts and antiques brought over from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The sign outside Anekkuson Sala features rare calligraphy penned by Pu Jie, brother of China’s last emperor Pu Yi, which gives the building’s name in Chinese. The temple also has a pagoda that contains the relics of the Lord Buddha and colourful gardens that are extremely well-maintained. The temple is a great destination for those interested in diverse architectural styles and religious heritage.

Those wishing to gain uninterrupted views of Pattaya Bay across to the island of Koh Lan will find that the viewpoint at Pattaya Hill fits the bill nicely. The hill is midway between south Pattaya and Jomtien and can be reached via a windy road that begins close to Bali Hai Pier. The route is not particularly well signposted and it might be advisable to ask for directions.

Local residents refer to the hill as Khao Phra Baht and the soaring radio antenna atop it is a local landmark. The hill’s prime position gives panoramic 360° views out to sea and also of the seaside resort itself. Although Pattaya Bay is attractive at sea level, the view of it from the hill is something else to behold. There are pay-per-view binoculars here that allow sightseers to zoom in on anything that takes their fancy

The statue of Prince Apakorn, founder of the Thai Navy, draws many Pattaya residents and tourists who pay homage to him with lighted joss-sticks and candles. Visitors wishing to make their own offerings can buy joss-sticks, candles and matches at the souvenir shop. Pattaya Hill viewpoint is open from 07:00 to 22:00.

The most amazing thing about Pattaya, is that there are so many things to see, many day trips to take and if you are not sure of what to do, a day trip to Khao Chee Chan, is a day to remember. It is located about 20 minutes outside of Pattaya. This is the largest Buddha image in the world, also known as Buddha mountain.

The outline of the sitting of Buddha, also known as Sukbothai-era Buddha, stands 130 meters tall and 71 meters wide. The image can literally be seen from miles away and below the sheer cliff, are beautiful gardens with terraced pools filled with lotus flowers as well as several shrines to pay homage

So if you are in Pattaya, make a plan to visit this historical Buddha image which is the largest in the world and the mountain is a good place to stop on your way to or coming from Nong Nooch Gardens as can be found just seven kilometers away, it makes for a great day trip.

Those who think that they have seen and done everything that Pattaya has to offer will want to take another look before heading off to their next destination of choice.

Pattaya is a great tourist destination in Thailand to visit because of the many things it has to offer. If you feel drained by the busy touristy Pattaya city and just want to relax, then Hat Sai Kaew is a place for you. Hat Sai Kaew beach is over a kilometer long and it is also recognized as the diamond beach and Koh Samet’s nicest.

Hat Sai Kaew Beach, is also the busiest and this is probably where the best nightlife happens on the island, with lots of restaurants playing videos, karaoke, bars and generally a natural Thai relaxing atmosphere. The island also has a lot of accommodation, so if you want to chill out for a couple of days, there is plenty of accommodation, which is no problem.

Hat Sai Kaew, is the place for you, if you love water sports, either just for a day of fun or a couple of days. There is plenty of water activities which include, water skiing, jet skies, diving, snorkeling, all try to avoid the chaos here as many people who turn up here for the sports activities. It is a fantastic place to be because after all your day’s activities, you can go to any restaurant or bar and relax while you eating exquisite cuisines including Thai while you watch a movie or if you are in a bar, they will be some sort of karaoke going on, all the places on the island try to excel in creation of relaxing atmosphere.

This beach, attracts many day trippers and those on short breaks and as a result, sometimes, it is a bit frenetic but still, a good atmosphere if you just want to relax, you can just do that and leave all the water activities to those who love water sports, you will still have a great time and you never know, people have a tendency of showing up here, you might run into someone you haven’t seen in a very long time.

So if you are in Pattaya and thinking of doing something different for a change, you not take a day trip or a couple days and escape to Hat Sai Kaew beach.

The most amazing thing about Pattaya is that you can never have a dull moment, at the night you can go to walking street and the most of what the street has got to offer and in the morning you can relax at the beaches trying to work on your hangover, but you be at the for the whole day, there so many other tourist attractions in Pattaya, but if you are still tired and don’t feel like you want to go to a major tourist attraction destination, going to the Khoa Phra Bat, is a very relaxing place.

This is a small hill to the south of Pattaya Beach with a vantage point to get the best panoramic view of the curved bay of Pattaya either in the day or night. Pattaya hill is now the site of the Naval Radio broadcasting station (FM 104.75 MHz) where the monument (a statue of HRH prince of Jumborn), Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak, the father of the Royal Thai Navy, is situated.

Apart from seeing Pattaya almost from all angles, you will also see the sacred Buddha image enshrined on the top of the hill, but most importantly, you see the amazing Pattaya city and the Pattaya bay as you have seen before.

The view is so amazing and relaxing, for those whose hobby is photography, do miss the opportunity of visiting Khoa Phra Bat because the photos of Pattaya you will take from here, will always be wonderful to look at. Getting there, you can take the Songtaew from anywhere that goes around the Pattaya bay and on the hill, but you can take the Tuk-Tuk, it wouldn’t cost you much.

On your visit to Pattaya, make sure that you don’t run out of things to do because Pattaya being on of the major tourist destination in Thailand, means there is a lot to do in Pattaya and one of them is a visit to The Pattaya Park Tower.

The visit to the Pattaya Park Tower is worthwhile thing to do because at the 55th floor of the tower, you will have a breathtaking view of Pattaya City, Pattaya Beach, Jomtien Beach, Ko Lan etc. If you have a good eye or a pair of binoculars, you can see as far as some of the near by islands.

People who love taking photographs, the photos taken from the observation deck of the tower, are of a memorable beautiful scenery and getting to the 55th floor is so easy by elevator which takes about one minute and on the way down, you have a choice of using the same elevator or the cable car which is supposed to be free but when you require it from the observation desk, it might cost you one hundred Baht.

And if you feel that you have enjoyed the breathtaking views from the Pattaya Park Tower, a “The Tower Jump” is also worthwhile as it also breathtaking and very exciting thing to do if you have a brave heart as it means, you will jump down from the tower top but with a cable hanging and of course safety protection is carried out before you jump and all you have to do, is to take a look at the picture below!
